What We Do
“Thank you, thank you, thank you for your kind and unending generosity. I found a peace that has been missing for a long time. Because you took the time to care and helped us laugh and taught us to fly fish, I can move into this phase of recovery with a great deal more strength and pleasure. I’ve been to the river and it was good.”
Anglers who fly fish often talk of the sport as a graceful, contemplative, artful craft. Fly fishing is a sport that invites reflection, stirs anticipation and hope, and reminds us to take pause and notice the beauty of our natural surroundings. In many cases, it is a metaphor for life itself.
Our Hope on the Rise (HOTR) retreats offer participants an opportunity to learn the essentials of fly fishing. As our weekend retreats unfold, a journey of healing begins. Participants immerse themselves in the excitement of a new adventure. Their worries fade with the cadence of their first cast. Friendships emerge and lives are enriched by the sharing of experiences. There is reflection, anticipation… hope.
Since 2012, Hope on the Rise has offered no-cost fly fishing retreats to women at any stage and with any type of cancer. Our retreats are held in Vermont and New Hampshire and serve women who are residents of Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Maine. HOTR is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Our organization and our retreats are 100% volunteer managed.
